Xmucane's Moons

"Xmucane" was the oldest of the Mayan Goddesses, known as the Goddess of Time. She created time's calculations and the calendar. Xmucane functions as the Moon between the phase when it is full and its disapperance. According to a Toltec legend, as told in the Popol Vuh, Xmucane invented their astrology and arranged the counting of time.

Grandmother Xmucane helped bring about the birth of the world through divination. Her name refers to her preparation of "maize" or corn, which she used to make the first humans. She is the patroness of midwives.
